We caught the ferry across to Russell today and walked the local area starting with a hike uphill to the Flagstaff overlooking the water back to Paihia.
Further along the road we came across this rather disturbing sign, but this was obviously placed by the locals to deter visitors from this rather special little cove with houses with a view.
A bit further down the road we came to our own beach overlooked by no-one and spent a lovely couple of hours swimming and watching a fleet of yachts racing out in the bay.
The end of day beer was accompanied by a mussel fritter (as recommended by Jo Barker) which was supposed to be a pre dinner snack but turned out to be a meal in itself. Thanks Jo, perhaps you should work for Trip Advisor.
So Cornwall or Tapeka Point? The jury's still out.

We are off to friends in Rotorua tomorrow and hopefully seeing some real Maori culture. Will see if I can do a Viking/Maori comparison. Hope all is well at school. Nikki
