Looking for a decent coffee en route we came across this shipping container in the middle of nowhere set up as a café. We've noticed the inventive use of shipping containers around the country, more of which later.
Complete strangers turned up, uninvited, on their drive with a camper van and they could not have been more hospitable. Thank you so much to the Browns for the use of you drive, hose, washing machine, bathroom facilities and for feeding us a lovely meal (nice to have some home cooked fruit crumble as a change from tinned rice from the tin - thank you Nanna Carol).
Whilst Colin emptied and repacked he was ably supervised by the youngest Brown (who is wearing his sister's purple leggings as it was a Wear Purple day at school).
The whole family made us feel welcome and it was interesting to talk to James, who funnily enough, works in the shipping container business and hear why they are used so widely and what for. I was thinking PE equipment storage sheds, Colin was thinking all weather BBQ shack. We left Richmond early Saturday morning for the final push to the ferry at Picton going along Queen Charlotte Drive which skirts the sounds along the north coast. What another beautiful area we haven't had time to explore. I'm not sure 10 months would be sufficient, let alone 10 weeks.
And so to the ferry terminal where we said goodbye to our little camper van which has been home for the last month.
Our last view of rugged South Island where we have had a great time, seen some amazing scenery, met some lovely people and generally had a good time.
Hello again North Island for the final fortnight of our amazing adventure.
Well who would have thought you could find all those uses for a scarf!! Makes the Osmington Hat Competition pale into insignificance! There must be some sort of award for it or a medal at the very least! Once again, thank you for the wonderful blog and amazing photos from all the Edkins family. I was with Claire this morning as she roped four of us into a swimathon at Poole Swimming pool for the Lions Rotary swimathon. Sponsor money going to support Julia's House for one that helps one particular family at school. She was only saying you were probably on the Brown's drive at some point recently! I expect it was a sad moment saying Goodbye to your trusty camper.

The shipping containers would certainly make brilliant P.E. storage. However, 2 metal garages have been ordered! I persuaded the 'powers that be', to order the largest we can afford ~ I'm sure we shall be able to fill them!
